Casa Barraques

ARCHITECTS OWN HOUSE

Awarded in the 6ª EDICIÓN DE LOS PREMIOS DE ARQUITECTURA DE MALLORCA 2014, 2015 Y 2016

Carrer Barraques has come about through a search for a place of tranquility and belonging. The architect and his family discovered Artà in search of the ceramicist Maria Antònia Carrió, whose work and knowledge later provided inspiration for the development of our project. When we started searching for our own place in Mallorca several years later, Artà emerged as fond memories of a village that was just big enough to accommodate our needs for good places to eat, a local bar and a quiet village life. The proximity to some of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca and the Parc de Llevant nature park complement the qualities that the city and area have to offer. The house was built in circa 1900 as a stable / garage and outbuilding and has undergone a major transformation into housing. Original walls and materials + local building practices / techniques have inspired the renovation - all built by local craftsmen.

Ventilation is based on natural ventilation and building knowlage - no AC.

Local architect Carlos Serra was ainvaluable in the application and construction process: https://carlosserra.es/

The furniture is designed by the architect and built by local craftsmen.

The house was designed and built over a period of approx. 2 years - 2013 - 2015.
